Forever Affordable Homes is delivering sustainable solutions to solve Aotearoa’s housing crisis

Bringing more secure, quality and forever affordable homes to the economically trapped.

The need for affordable housing is growing as house prices continue to rise. This lack of affordable housing displaces people/ families to urban fringes or regional /rural areas. Our housing market is not retaining affordability beyond the first owner.

Displaced Aucklanders increase demand on limited housing, causing house prices rises elsewhere.

Affordable homes are often far from workplaces, increasing commutes, therefore road congestion and decreases productivity. Key and essential workers are being priced out of urban centres where we need them the most.

Joining the dots to solve the housing crisis

Forever Affordable Homes Founder, Imogen Schoots, joined ‘'When The Facts Change’' podcast host Bernard Hickey (29:40 to 41min) to discuss how to connect institutional funding sector money with affordable housing solutions to solve the housing crisis.

A different outcome requires a new approach

FAH’s model is based on internationally proven solutions

We’re a team of experts working to roll out proven models to create forever affordable housing outcomes here in Aotearoa NZ. Our solution uses Community Land Trust and Cooperative models to bring to market housing solutions for the “missing middle”. This is the large and growing portion of the population that sits between being able to afford to buy/or market rent and being eligible for any income support.

Secure structure

Using a Trust structure ensures the land is protected and value locked. It is free from future market speculation.

Gives occupants control

Co-ownership gives occupants empowerment through being actively involved in all parts of their home.

We know this works

Australia has around 5,500 housing co-operatives, providing homes to over one million people.

In Austria 10% of the population lives in a co-owned home.

Almost 80% of Manhattan's residential real estate market is co-operatively owned.

There are over 540 Community Land Trusts (CLT’s) operating in the United States, Canada, and the UK combined.

Approaching land as community-owned and managed reflects our own home grown Papakāinga. The CLT structure allows for various types of building ownership such as rentals, progressive home ownership to housing co-operatives.
