How it works

1.       Individuals come together to form a collective, combing resources to play a leading role in addressing their own housing needs. The need for profit is removed.

2.       Land is transferred off the private land market into a Trust, paying a fixed ground rent to the owner. This would be less than the market rate and ideally be over a 100 year period.

3.       The building structures are built and operationally managed by a co-operative.

4.       This combination of two collective housing models, that being a cooperative and a Community Land Trust achieves scalability, replicability, greatest occupant input and most importantly forever affordability.

This is a highly summarised version of the process outlined within the full case study. More details are given in our case study blog post. Also find out more through our blog post ‘Why I want a forever affordable home.’
